Member Rating:
In this light comedy directed by British writer-comedian Ben Elton, Sam and Lucy Bell (Hugh Laurie and Joely Richardson) are an upwardly mobile London couple who are trying desperately to conceive a baby. Along for the ride, which is laden with sperm-count and hormone-injection jokes, is a cast that reads like a Who's Who in British comedy. Rowan Atkinson makes an appearance as an obstetrician, Dawn French and Joanna Lumley show up as an Australian nurse and Lucy's snooty boss, and Emma Thompson has a stint as a New Age health freak. Adrian Lester and Tom Hollander also co-star, the latter as a Brit-loathing Scottish director. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi

With such a great British comedic cast (i.e. Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, Emma Thompson) with a brillant writer Ben Elton at the head you can't go wrong. Witty, funny and very entertaining. I believe that this was a semi-autobiographical account of Ben and wife's attempts to make a baby. Thinking maybe you should give it a try.

it was rather funny . I was surprized at just how funny it was. Meaning by the rating it has on here, but I like Hugh Laurie and thought I would give it try! I am happy that I did.

Being one who has gone through all of the fertility issues, it was nice to have a comical look at it all. You get so deep into all the craziness of having a baby, that it is hard to see the humor during it all so I laughed & cried out loud at this movie. It was a nice surprise, even to see Matthew MacFadyen in such a different role too. I'm glad he got out of the 'unlikeable characters' role to find his way to Mr. Darcy......*whew* that was a close one!
