    This movie is not a typical Hollywood underdog sports movie. It is much more. It is about wounded people making the best of second chances in life. There are great life lessons on teamwork, patience, hard work, and tolerance. This movie is authentic nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the mid-west in the 50's and 60's. Its the real deal, and I know because I went to a Illinois high school in the 60s. The noise level, and high excitement of the H.S. tournaments is something I remember with fondness. Dennis Hopper, may he RIP, in perhaps his finest movie role as Shooter, and Gene Hackman takes command of the basketball court like George Patton with a whistle around his neck. Two outstanding actors at their very best.

    If you enjoy sports movies and even if you don't, this is a great story about an underdog coach and team that finds its way to the state basketball championship in Indiana. It is based on a true story and the movie is very well-done. There are some great characters in the movie and many sub-plots that keep the viewer's interest.

    After watching "Glory Road" with Josh Lucas and enjoyed it very much; I decided to give this movie a try and I'm glad I did, because we all loved it! I do NOT like watching Basketball on t.v. at all, but there is something special about watching these players! The producers that decided to pick Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper, made great choices! Gene Hackman is especially wonderful when he stands strong in something he believes in, that makes his character(s) stand out and enjoyable to watch him in movies!
