Member Rating:
In their second feature with director Richard Lester, who oversaw the massive hit A Hard Day's Night, the Beatles again aim for a mix of goofy comedy and sterling pop music. There is slightly more of a plot this time, though it is a patently ridiculous one: a sacred ruby ring comes into Ringo's possession, attracting the unwelcome attention of an exotic religious cult and forcing the boys to go on the run. This chase narrative is thankfully never taken too seriously, serving mainly as an excuse for colorful excursions to international locations from Europe to the Bahamas. The musical numbers include such classic tunes as "Ticket to Ride," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and, of course, "Help!". ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

A must see for any music fan. The new DVD print is crystal clear, and the music has been enhanced remarkably.

I know it is only natural to compare 'Help!' with the 'A Hard Days Night.' AHDN was a groundbreaking movie at the time and has held up extremely well over the years. However, AHDN's remarkable achievements should not held against HELP!. If you can get past the somewhat hokey, dated and non-linear storyline, the rest of 'Help!' compares very favorably. The music is outstanding and the boys are in fine form romping through the various 'situations' they are placed in by Lester. If you are expecting AHDN Part II, then, yes, this may not fully meet your expectations. However, if you love the Beatles, enjoy their music and sense of humor, then HELP! delivers that in spades. -- Ringo: "They have to paint me red before they chop me. It's a different religion from ours. I think."

The musical sequences are mesmerizing and the color on this (enhanced?) edition are spectacular, but the storyline is downright ridiculous. "Help" lacks the charm and energy of "Hard Day's Night," but I'd still recommend watching it if you're a Beatles fan. And who isn't?
