Another movie that doesn't know what it wants to be. It starts and ends comically (sort of tongue-in-cheek humor) but gets real serious for a little while towards the end. It would have been better to keep a light air (the subject is comical after all) or make a serious movie, but trying to do both is jolting.

The best movie based on one of Mario Vargas Llosa's novels. The visitadoras are too glamorous to be plausible (with Angie Cepeda showing almost everything) but the Pantaleon character is great and so is the Amazonian setting. The novel (of the same title) is one of two comic masterpieces by Vargas Llosa. The other --Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter-- was also made into a movie (with Peter Falk) but was warped by its pretended Hollywood appeal.
