This is a great movie with a powerful message. There are a few funerals in the movie, so be prepared if you have younger children. If you're studying the Civil Rights Movement, there are some bonus features about the actual events. For the most part, it's told in the eyes of a child, and it's more emotional than violent. I think everyone should see this movie.
