Synopsis of Star Power: The Creation of United Artists

Star Power: The Creation of United Artists tells the story of four major figures of the silent film era, actor Charlie Chaplin, director D.W. Griffith, actress Mary Pickford, and actor Douglas Fairbanks, coming together to create a successful studio of their own, United Artists Corporation. Via vintage footage and Roddy McDowell's narration, the film traces the four screen legends' rise to super-stardom, as well as their savvy business activity. In 1919, the film industry was just emerging; these artists stepped forward and made their mark. The movie reveals the little-known, somewhat juicy reasons why these stars chose to leave their established studios for more independent ground. When talkies became all the rage, explains McDowell, the silent stars and their studio fell on difficult times. ~ Betsy Boyd, All Movie Guide
