Fter reading the book (which I loved) I was excited at the prospect of seeing it come ot life in the movie. I was actually rather disappointed. For me this movie was just an "O.K." adaptation at best. I would highly recommend reading the book instead!!

What a disappointment! They deviated SO far on even the most crucial points of the novel! This movie is not even a good movie in itself, regardless of whether it's adapted from a novel or not! Hinds does a fair Rochester impression. (I think I still prefer Orson Welles) But is way too angry all the time. And Morton could physically pass as Jane, but she is much too passive to truly embody Jane Erye. They not only skip over crucial moments but make up things altogether!!! It's absurd and infuriating that they do not even include any original dialogue in the film either!! I don't know what the screenwriter was thinking. It skips around, scenes are not well developed, and it would make no sense to someone who simply wants to watch a movie, and not see a beloved novel come to life Do yourself a big favor and save yourself the time! Don't watch it. The 1983 version is much better. Even though it does star Timothy Dalton.

Did anyone associated with this movie even read the book? This is one of the worst versions I have ever seen. Everyone in the movie seemed so angry. Samantha Morton had the look of Jane Eyre but not the spirit. And Cirian Hinds just barked at everything. There was no passion, no tenderness behind anything. I have seen several versions of this film and this by far is my least favorite. If you want to see the story of Jane Eyre either rent the one with Timothy Dalton(a very near literal visual of the book) or rent the one with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson (for the romance of the novel).
