The Giant Gila Monster (1959)

The Giant Gila Monster (1959)
Member Rating:
In The Giant Gila Monster, most of the plot is given over to a group of hot-rod enthusiasts, headed by nice-guy Chace Winstead (Don Sullivan), who sometimes breaks into song. Before long, the titular gila monster, which is just that -- a real gila monster -- is lumbering about on miniaturized sets terrorizing the community, killing at random, knocking over trains and barns, and in general making a nuisance of itself. When the monster threatens to devour Chace's kid sister, he attempts to dispatch the beast with a hot rod full of nitroglycerin. The Giant Gila Monster was originally released on a double bill with The Killer Shrews. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I can't add anything about the movie to the existing two sterling reviews. However, if you ever get a chance to hear the 45 single from the soundtrack, you are in for a treat. Yes, you can easily find an MP3 of 'Gila Monster Crawl', with reverb surf-ish guitar and THEREMIN! but for maximum effect, I play the original Rosco label 45 in my 1954 Seeburg juke box. Pumping this track through the twin 12 inch subs and twin 8 inch mids, plus a tweeter, give it a punch worthy of a theater system! DK

It was a 1959 B movie. Of course it had bad acting, plot, and special effects. You have to be a fan of the 1950s cheap horror movies to appreciate this. I enjoyed it, but have to give it two stars because it was soooo cheesy.
