Andy McCoy is something of a legend in the Finnish rock scene; he played guitar with the influential glam-metal group Hanoi Rocks (who were big favorites of both Motley Crue and Guns n Roses), and was later a member of Iggy Pop's road band. But being a legend isn't always an easy thing, as this documentary about McCoy's life makes clear. Born Antti Hulkko, McCoy has had an ongoing problem with drugs for some time, and his work has gained him more notoriety than wealth. The Real McCoy gives the guitarist (and his wife) a chance to discuss his gypsy heritage and his career in music as well as his health issues; the film also follows McCoy on an ill-fated trip to India (where's he's arrested for possession of narcotics) and as he recovers from a fall from a third-floor balcony. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
