The narrative of The Hitman unfolds following the assassination of a sleazy Japanese businessman in Hong Kong. Various groups come together at a meeting held by the administrators of the dead man's Revenge Fund, which offers a $100 million reward to find the killer. Fu (Jet Li), a penniless mainlander, walks into the meeting by accident and is taken under the wing of Ngok Lo, a smooth-talking agent for professional hit men who proposes Fu help him track down the killer. Some of the funniest scenes are when Ngok Lo buys Fu new clothes and coaches him in Hong Kong ways. Ngok's daughter, a young lawyer who is unhappy with her father's background, seems to fancy Fu. Fu and Ngok are busy trying to stay one step ahead of the psychotic son of the murdered man, who is also after the assassin -- a reputed mythical Killing Angel. A genre film reflecting the current zeitgeist in Hong Kong following the Chinese take over, The Hitman was screened as part of the International Forum of New Cinema section of the 49th Berlin Film Festival, 1999. ~ Gönül Dönmez-Colin, Rovi

Being a long term Jet Li fan, I have come to realize that Jet is not the greatest actor and most of his movies are hit or miss. Really good or really bad. His thing is action and when he's not doing very much of his thing the movie becomes pretty boring for me. This movie for me was pretty boring. Here, Jet is a low level contract killer......with a heart?....he never actually kills anyone! In fact the cover picture of the movie is misleading. Simon Yam is actually the face that should be wearing the gear you see Jet wearing and Simon Yam is not even a contract killer, he's a vigilante killer. I know it sounds confusing, when you watch the movie you will understand. Sadly, I can not recommend this one, even for Jet Li fans.

I hate dubbed films, the voice actors they get never convey the same feeling, and are usually just downright terrible. This film might have been much better if it was subtitled instead of dubbed. unfortunatly, the dialouge made me want to see everyone die. The story is pretty good, a crime lord is assainated, but he left a "revenge fund" set aside to hire an assasin to kill his assasin (he was very foreward thinking). The identity of the assasin is kept a secret until the end and it's actually a pretty good job. If you like Jet Li films, this will entertain you for 98 minutes.....

The usual Jet Li craps!! Decent action mixes with unbelivable plot, hard-to-imagine romance, and lack of acting performance - Jet Li can't act. I have seen Jet Li recent films, and he still can't act, although he's getting slightly better. However, watching his "acting performance" (if you can call it that at atll) from his early films is very very very *painful*. One Star for the action, but minus 10 as a movie!!
