Synopsis of Guo Jong

Chen Yiwen, who was both an actor and the assistant director on Edward Yang's A Confucian Confusion (1994), made his directorial debut with this Taiwanese comedy-drama that begins when a young unemployed Taipei couple, Kai (Cai Xinghung) and Jiajia (June Cai), make the mistake of stealing a car previously used in a gangland killing. The couple answers an ad for the car's return placed by owner Snow (Vina Xu), who is sleeping with married film producer Liu (Jine Shijie). Snow wants Liu to finance a film from the screenplay written by her lover Shaoqun (Chen Lihua). Jiajia is jealous when Shaoqun links up with Kai. More characters overlap amid crime, corruption, and lost innocence. Shown at the 1998 San Sebastian Film Festival and the 1998 Vancouver Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide
