Member Rating:
This low-budget horror film about teenagers trapped in a carnival funhouse with a freakish monster is pretty standard stuff. Director Tobe Hooper manages a few shocks and includes some typically peculiar supporting characters, but this film is less entertaining than either of his previous excursions into such territory. Not as scary as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) nor as bizarre as Eaten Alive (1976), The Funhouse may as well have been directed by an anonymous hack as one of the foremost names in the genre. The movie tie-in novel, penned by Dean R. Koontz under the pseudonym "Owen West," is actually far more frightening than the film on which it was based. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

A was quite impressed with Tobe Hopper's the Funhouse. The movie was typical of his style, he didn't vere off his strength, which is less gore and more terror. The Funhouse characters were truely spooky and the funhouse dolls and puppets were even more creepy. The film does have a plot and is scary if you are younger. I ended up getting bad dreams after I watched the film which tells me the film did it's job. I highly recommend this film if you are a classic horror movie buff, you won't be disappointed.

It seemed like this movie took awhile to get to the point. It was SO predictable and cheesy but for some reason, I couldn't stop watching it! It reminded me of an 80's friday night movie.

This movie was average for the time period it came out, but when you look at the crap that has come out between now and then it clearly stands above a lot of that. It's pretty weak on the death scenes, but still fun to watch. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. I always liked the movies where the killer was some mutated freak : )
