Frankenstein's Daughter (1958)

Frankenstein's Daughter (1958)
Member Rating:
Frankenstein's Daughter, a low-budget American horror movie badly directed by Richard E. Cunha, is another in a series of poorly made adaptations of Mary Shelley's classic horror novel. Here, the original Dr. Frankenstein's grandson, Oliver Frankenstein (Donald Murphy), now living in Los Angeles, creates a female version of the Monster from sweet teenage girl, Trudy (Sandra Knight) who then goes on a killing rampage. This thriller, with poor production values and bad sets, has some intentional humor, but little real horror. Also released as She Monster of the Night, Frankenstein's Daughter was featured in It Came from Hollywood, an amusing and loving tribute to horror films and their makers. Also, lovers of trivia should note that Sandra Knight, who plays Trudy, would later become the wife of actor Jack Nicholson. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

This excellently bad Richard E. Cunha flick has all the right ingredients: mixed-up plot, ham hock acting, putrid FX - all in splendiferous B n' W! Maybe not quite as awesomely great as Cunha's "She Demons" but pretty darn wonderful if yer a drive-in movie buff!

Ok I liked this film but it would have been a better film if a few things had been corrected. I really like the start of the movie. I know the slang used definitely sounded corny but hey that is just part of the fun. But what I thought brings down this movie is the monster itself. What was up with the way it holds its arms? Dr. Frank was creepy in his advances towards Judy and then bam he goes after Suzy. The movie went South when the monster is shown and the plot with Trudy and the serum goes away. But otherwise, I enjoyed this film from the fab 50's! ~ Susan L.
