Very entertaining movie. Some of the special effects rival today's motion pictures. I had a problem with the dialogue recording, the voices you hear don't seem to be coming out of the characters' mouths. Some scenes are anti-climactic and sometimes the story-line taking place in Ithaca gets tired. The second half of the movie (it's a 3-hour film) is by far the best. It's as though they finally figured out the right pacing and even the acting improves. The story itself becomes more engaging, though maybe not as adventurous as in the first half. Younsters are most likely to enjoy this movie, but there's some very gory and violent scenes.

From the moment when Odysseus races to help Penelope with the birth of their son to his long-awaited reunion with his wife, family, and kingdom, my students were enraptured. The settings, the action, the creatures, and the characters of Homer's epic came alive for them. An excellent rendition, and while the script writers took some liberties with the sequence of events and missing elements, this movie version rates high on their list of favorites.
