Member Rating:
This 60-million-dollar science fiction suspense drama (marketed with an additional 25 million dollars), was adapted from the popular TV series The X-Files -- arriving in theaters while the Emmy-winning series was still being aired, continuing plot threads familiar to many of the series' 25 million viewers, and featuring several familiar recurring characters introduced during the previous five TV seasons. In 15,000 B.C., a strange creature attacks a caveman. Cut to present day, when a boy at the same North Texas spot falls into a pit and is contaminated by a black substance. When a bomb threatens the Dallas Federal Building, special FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) locate the device but are unable to prevent the explosion. The agency blames Mulder and Scully for the disaster, subjecting them to lengthy interrogations while trying to sever their partnership. In a bar, conspiracy theorist Kurtzweil (Martin Landau), a friend of Mulder's father, tells Mulder about the group behind the explosion, the cover-up of the boy's death, the bodies of four infected rescue workers removed from the Federal Building, the secret government, and the forthcoming plague. Mulder and Scully set out to find answers, and their investigation becomes a foray into the fantastic. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

I wish people like the other person who rated this movie would quit being so ignorant and childish. The X-Files was one of the best series in the world and never will die because it exposes thoughts and patterns that even in the real world outside of this show goes on. The government is not always telling us the whole story or the truth. Chris Carter made a lot of good points and the X-Files will go on to be one of the most daring series ever made. EXCELLENT movie to accompany the series.

I am an X-file fan, and was ready to gush forth with praises, but one of the other reviews caused me to pause. Upon deeper scrutiny, I'll admit feeling a few subtle disappointments. The early dialogue sounded scripted ...a bit unnatural. The main "What in the heck are we doing?" issue seemed less "resolved" in the movie than on TV. Mulder seemed more effeminant in the movie than on TV. The meeting of the group of 15 international conspirators was an awkward insertion. The info that was necessary to the plot could have been given to us some other way. And, candidly, Martin Landau's charactor lacked credibility, and his necessary plot info could have been infused in a more creative way. I could add more legit critique, but ...it IS X-Files, and it is good stuff. It was definately NOT a disappointment. Even w/ my critique, I still almost went 4 stars. Rent it ...you'll be glad you did.

I saw a few if the X Files TV shows and thought they were so-so. Therefore I was pleasantly surprised with the movie. It had a decent plot and good action without being over the top. I would recomment it.
