This thriller takes place in Blue Bay, Florida, where social-climbing guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is indifferent to teen-socialite Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards), who retaliates by accusing him of rape, an accusation that leads to his suspension by the school and a rejection from the country club. He can't afford a big attorney, so he hires shrewd Ken Bowden (Bill Murray), while Kelly's mom, Sandra Van Ryan (Theresa Russell), Sam's former lover, gets a platoon of top lawyers. Trailer-trash Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) backs up Kelly's claim and additional plot twists and turns develop. The seldom-seen Carrie Snodgrass (Diary of a Mad Housewife) has a supporting role in this film. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

Very interesting movie. Good plot, several nice twists & turns. Very well acted by good cast. It's se xy & thought-provoking. You're never quite sure who's on the up & up & who's not. I like that kind of making-me-guess (think) type of movie. It's a little bit on the hyper-melodramatic, daytime soap-opera-ish side, which is not a plus for me, but it keeps that aspect in check for the most part. In some ways, it's kind of a throwback to older 50s-style Hitchco ck-ian stuff, but it's more than that, too. FYI / Beware - the s e x scene with Matt Dillon, Denise Richards (WOW!!!!!)& Neve Campbell was very hot for an R-rated movie. I'll bet it was pretty close to getting the NC-17, especially back in 1998. I just noticed the picture above here is for the Unrated Version, but the disc I'm looking at that I watched last night says it is the R-rated version. Makes me wonder what the heck was in the unrated version! LOL Heck of a good (pretty close to great) rent.
