Synopsis of Hoi Duiong Mau Da Cam

After a South Vietnamese air force captain retires from the service at the end of the Vietnam war, he dons the saffron-colored robes of a Buddhist monk, shaves his head, and takes monk's vows. Before long, one of his old air-force buddies shows up, intent on blackmailing him into fighting against the socialist government. After the two men go back and forth on the subject, the monk breaks down and tells his former friend about how the Americans sprayed napalm on rice fields, on people, on jungle trees - not to mention the infamous Agent Orange. After he hears the monk's tale, the friend tells him in turn how his wife killed herself after their baby was born too deformed to live, from the effects of the wartime chemical weapons. Once their shared memories have cleared the air, the former air force buddy is less inclined to follow through on his original plan. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
