Ciao! Manhattan (1972)
Member Rating:
Edie Sedgwick,1960s heroine of decadence, is exploited from beyond the grave in this clumsily pieced together film taken from two unfinished Sedgwick vehicles -- one by Chuck Wein from 1967 displaying Edie at her peak as a Warhol star, and the other from 1970 by David Weisman and John Palmer, made when Edie appeared decimated from drug and alcohol addiction. The film is arranged in the form of a cinema verité examination of her life and lifestyle: the woman lives in an empty, covered-over swimming pool, surrounded by posters of herself. She prances around topless for a good portion of the film, the better to display the results of a generous addition of silicone. The film shows her reminiscing about the days when she was a "star" and when her drug highs were mellower. Sedgwick died of a drug overdose in 1971. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Yes she is totally exploited in this romp thru ETs and DTs.... But if you are an Edie addict ya gotta see it.

One of the worst movies I have EVER seen and believe me I have seen a lot of bad movies! I normally like quirky little films but this one was beyond compare. I could not sit through more than about 15 minutes. Nothing about this movie would make me want to recommend it. The lighting and sound were terrible but even worse was the "acting" (or whatever passed for acting when this was made). Edie Sedgwick was a terrible actress!!! She was stoned and naked for most of the 15 minutes that I watched. Even if you like stoned and naked her "acting" was a joke, a really bad joke. The other actors were equally as bad. It's unfortunate the rating system doesn't allow reviewers to give it negative stars.

I'm glad to have seen this move. There are some very cool moments and good look at the late '60s. But, it is a total train wreck. I'm sure there was no script and they scrambled to try to throw it together. The plot is a nonsense. It is sad to see, however, knowing Edie's ultimate fate a few months later... Edie appears topless through most of the movie. Gratuitous and sad... people all around her, but no one could help her?!
