Dreileben - Don't Follow Me Around (2011)
A woman helping to track down a dangerous criminal finds her personal life is becoming nearly as draining as her work in this drama from director Dominik Graf. Molesch (Stefan Kurt), a felon with a long history of violent and sexual offenses, has escaped from a hospital in the East German city of Dreileben, and Jo (Jeanette Hain) is a psychologist who has been brought in to help local authorities with their investigation. When Jo has trouble finding a hotel room in Dreileben, she turns to an old college friend, Vera (Susanne Wolff), and she invites Jo to stay with her and her husband Bruno (Misel Maticevic), a writer. Vera and Bruno are restoring a large house that had been used as a museum before the fall of Communism, and they have plenty of room for a guest, but the more time Jo spends with Vera, the more she finds she has little in common with her increasingly bourgeois friend, and matters come to a head when the two women learn they both dated the same man in their school days. Dreileben: Komm Mir Nicht Nach (aka Dreileben: Don't Follow Me Around) is part of a trilogy of films from three contemporary German filmmakers set in the fictional city of Dreileben, all of which feature several common characters; the films received their North American debut at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
