Shaun of the Dead star Kate Ashfield headlines this tightly-wound psychological thriller adapted from author Nicci French's novel about romance gone wrong, and the devastating repercussions that follow. For Miranda Cotton (Ashfield) it was just a brief fling, but for Brendan Block (David Tennant) it was so much more. When Miranda broke up with Brendan she figured he would eventually move on. Three weeks later Miranda's younger sister Kerry announces that she has just landed a new boyfriend, and his name is Brendan Block. Now, all of Miranda's friends are dying, and she's convinced that Brendan is the killer. Realizing that the only way to beat her manipulative ex-lover at his own game is to somehow turn the tables on him, Miranda puts her life on the line to prove that Brendan is killer the police are searching for. Should her plan backfire Miranda will most certainly die, and should she fail her sister will pay the ultimate price. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
David Tennant was a great pick for the villain in this psychothriller - his magnetism plays perfectly into the role of a man who uses his charm and charisma to get away with murder (figuratively and literally). He straddles the line that separates sexy/mysterious from uncomfortable/dangerous, which just makes the entire story that much more disturbing. Kate Ashfield also delivers an excellent performance here - she plays up the tension very well. The entire story is told rather subtly and the ambiguity of Brendan's guilt keeps you thinking even as the credits roll.
I wish I had read the review before getting this movie. I love David Tennant, but am disturbed at how I hated his character. He was so believable as a psychopath. This was a good psychological thriller...I'll give it that much. But if you're looking to walk away loving David Tennant, stick with Doctor Who.
I am a huge David Tennant fan so I was really excited about seeing this movie. I knew that he played a psychopath but I didn't think that would bother me. Let me just say right now that Tennant is a REALLY good actor. His character was so sick and disgusting that it was really hard to get that image out of my head. If you're a Tennant fan, I don't recommend seeing this movie. If you like really dark movies about disturbing personalities, I guess this is the film for you.
