Synopsis is incorrect: Sylvia is not trying to reconcile with her parents in this movie. Burning is complex and emotional and most questions are answered by the end. Pay attention or you will get lost. It is an intense drama--not good if you're already depressed or looking for something light-hearted, but of course, it is Arriaga. I would not recommend for teens.
It was very dark and disturbing. The film gave a really sad, gritty depiction of a girl who turned into a barely alive young woman. Charlize handled a difficult part with amazing credibility. Kim Basinger's character was so sad in her desperation. If you can handle a dark real life entanglement of damaged people, this film is for you.
