El Gran Mentiroso (What A Liar!) was based on The Artificial Children, a play by Federico Reparaz y Abati. The title character, played by director Fernando Soler, is the husband of an adoring wife (Anita Blanch). Despite his most flagrant peccadilloes, the wife continues to insist that her husband is the salt of the earth. When he begins fooling around with a much-younger woman, he has to think up a few lies to keep his wife from finding out. Those few lies blossom into scores of prevarications, with the expected results.
