What a FRICKEN waste of time THIS WAS ! This was like watching a cross between a "Napolean Dynamite" and "Woody Allen" - - absolutely self-absorbed, depressed, wimpy, and a closet homosexual. This movie was LONG and horribly boring....watching a wimp telling the world he is depressive - and whining throughtout the ENTIRE MOVIE...and having whacko friends who keep trying to set him up with PATHETIC women ! He is attracted to feminist women who urinate on him emotionally...him being a closet feminist himself...but they dump him left and right !! You can see why this guy never got married - - he is about as "exciting" as watching grass grow....

This movie meanders more then the Chattahoochee river. On the surface it offers information about the march to the see. Then rapidly drops to a collection of self indulgent characters stuck in the early 1980s. The cast runs from the self loving starlet to an evangelical interior designer and the Mormon singer. You are presented with one forgettable person after another. Even as the movie claims to show the depth of southern womanhood it only glosses over stereotypes.

I agree with the majority, this movie was awful--a huge disappointment. I rented it thinking I might pick up some knowledge concerning Sherman's March. What you read in the synopsis is all the info you will glean from the movie itself. Within the first few minutes, the narrator goes into some bunch of personal self-discovery crap and then I don't know what happens because I didn't make it five minutes into it. I did fast forward 10-15 minutes, saw/heard the same monotone boring story that is this 80's yahoo life and hit eject. My advice if you want to learn about the civil war, rent Gone With The Wind---it has more factual info than this movie is capable of of having.

You will like this film if you are an Indie film fan--otherwise, move onto something else. My husband hated it and didn't stick with it longer than 30 minutes. I stayed with it and was glad I did. Don't expect a history lesson about Sherman's March through the South.

I am curious as to how Mr. McElwee earned the financial backing to create this film. I'm sure someone liked it. I did not.

If the government ever outlawed the letter "I", Ross McElwee would have no idea how to start a sentence. Like many of his fellow baby boomers, he seems incapable of thinking about anything but himself, even when trying to face down something as monumental as Sherman's March through the South. Having said that, this movie is not without its charms. The women are interesting (if not nearly nuts) and Charleen is indeed a character to be seen to be believed. It is an hour too long, and "Exhibit A" in the argument about why there are no great boomer artists. But it is about right for those nights after a confusing breakup with a pint of Haagen-Dazs and a mixed drink.

Lame Lame Lame. This guy is a pathetic. BAsically he goes under theguise that he is making a dicumentary about Sherman's march. He commits a few passages to memory and/or memorizes what is written on a historical marker (as you watch him do this) and regurgitates it every now and then between the pitiful attempts to attract women. He should have to pay the grant back he go tto make this. What a waste. Total crap. You have been warned. You will never get the two hours of your life back. So awful that it is not even cheesy or camp.
