This film really tugs at the heart strings and is full of emotional appeal; Spike Lee is very inventive as an actor and certainly director and producer..this film pushes all the race string buttons and then some.. such a young Spike Lee.,and Danny Aiello, almost looking for the event that finally wipes out his business..all in all an entertaining film regardless of the race tugs..4 stars.

This movie's a lot better than I remembered when I first watched it. It's a good hyper-dramatic story. I mean it's highly unrealistic, but maybe the way that someone who lived like that prefers to remember it. Even the colors make you feel like you are watching someone's diary story book. My memory of being in these type of neighborhoods was a lot of angry, threatening people, and a lot more drugs than shown here. This movie portrays peoples' threatening "in your face" actions as "just kidding around and not to be taken seriously" but that's not my experience. That all said, still a pretty good movie and fun to watch.

My 17 year old came home from school asking for this movie, it is still valued and relevant by teenagers who are socially aware today.

The reason I could never recommend this movie... is the TITLE, because none of the main characters can bring themselves to do anything close to the right thing- it's not like they are even struggling with it. They are all so myopic and in a state of arrested personality development that none of them exhibits any depth of integrity. Sure, it is an interesting ride and there are cinematic details of the personal lives of the characters, but by the end, I was disappointed with the lot of them and not drawn in to care about any of them as any kind of protagonist. If that was the intent and the message, the title may have been deliberately sarcastic, in which case it did a poor job of selling the audience and the film in general.
