The Coen Brothers consistantly make off-beat entertaining movies - beginning with 'Blood Simple' which also starred Francis McDormand. She was excellent as the pregnant Sheriff. Her mannerisms and accent were so authentic and at times comical. William H. Macy was terrific! In fact, all of the other characters - and I mean 'characters' were equally interesting. If you were to look up the definition of a 'black comedy' - the answer would be "Fargo" Actually, another good black comedy to see is 'The Hospital'(an oldie but 'black' goodie)

If you love the Coen Brothers and dark humor then you have probably already seen Fargo, if not then rent it. It is classic Coen Brothers, one of their very best!

It's a Coen Brothers' movie and that about says it all. It got Frances McDormand an Oscar and broght William H. Massey a nomination and to forefront as one of the best character actors now working. It's a dark (very) comedy/character study. Actually very little action. Pay attention to the details. McDormand's interview with the 2 small town prostitutes is hilarious. Recommended.

The accents are great, and the police chief is so sweet, but still kicks butt... Could've done without a few scenes, though.

I have been wanting to watch this for many years. I saw it at the store for a very long time, and my recent interest in Coen films made me rent it. A very dark humor pervades this otherwise bloody, violent gaze at frigid Minnesota and how not every bumpkin as is innocent as he seems. Great accents! William H. Macy is wonderful as the scheming car salesman and Frances McDormand is very good, and they both do the perfect accent. Buscemi is top-notch for his character; the scenery and the dialogue are really what does the movie justice, and that score at the beginning and end. However, I was left with a tiny amount of disappointment after all of the buzz. But it is one of those movies that leaves you thinking, and that Coen quirk is very much there, and you wouldn't want to miss it. Overall, a B+.

If you don't like this movie you have no sense of humor. This is one of the best movies of the last 20 years. At times hilarious, scary, deadpan, pitiful, loving, triumphant - it's all here. Some viewers have problems shifting gears mid-movie and sometimes mid-scene. I used to think that the accents were a little over the top, then I moved to the upper midwest. THEY ARE VERY ACCURATE!!!!!!!!!! Frances MacDormand gives the performance of a lifetime. I love the Mike Anagita character. "I so lonely!" My favorite line of the movie has to be at the end - "There's more to life than a little bit of money. Don't you know that?" Portrays a very sympathetic and human image of law enforcement. While this movie is gory at times, it has its heart in the right place.

This is a classic. A great American movie. Another exceptionally scripted movie by the Coen Bros. Bill Macy as Jerry Lundegard stole the show. One for the collection.
