this movie is silly and only mild amusing. the 5 star reviews are far too generous. If you enjoy crime/comedy genre, then rent Ladykillers (1955 version). It is a classic.

you have to be a Wes Anderson fan, to appreciate this film. Judging by some of you that commented, not a big fan of Wes"s early work...i how ever get it....

out of the four movies the Wilsons and Anderson have done, Rushmore and Tennenbaums are the only great movies. Bottle Rocket and The life Aquatic are total missfires!!

Loved it, but I am a Wes Anderson fanatic so my review may be biased.

OK.. so it was better than a poke in the eye and all that... but it's definetely not worth 5 stars! This is one of those movies that is pretty random in it's plot. The characters are so inconceivable in their thinking that it is rather amusing... but I wouldn't recommend this to others unless they enjoy Woody Allen kinds of movies... as it's the same kind of random comedy.

Ordinarily I'm game for movies that were never blockbusters / main stream critically acclaimed - that's why I was willing to try this early-Owen in the first place. I am a big Owen Wilson fan and truly WANTED TO like this film. My late-teen aged child walked away after half an hour... but I had invested so much time into it I felt that I had to stick it out. Well, there's an hour & a half of my life that I'll never get back. The category 'mystery & suspense' does not apply and it is definitely more 'drama' than 'comedy'. It's not that it was slow-starting, it never got started in the first place. Luke Wilson falls love-at-first-sight head over heels for a motel housekeeper. James Caan empties Robert Musgraves' parents' house. The plot line was thin.

The story was going nowhere and the humor wasn't making up for that. Difficult to recommend this to anyone except if you want to waste somebodies evening.

Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but certainly not funny and not worth recommending.
