Conspiracy film specialist Alan J. Pakula turned journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's best-selling account of their Watergate investigation into one of the hit films of Bicentennial year 1976. While researching a story about a botched 1972 burglary of Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate apartment complex, green Washington Post reporters/rivals Woodward (Robert Redford, who also exec produced) and Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) stumble on a possible connection between the burglars and a White House staffer. With the circumspect approval of executive editor Ben Bradlee (Jason Robards), the pair digs deeper. Aided by a guilt-ridden turncoat bookkeeper (Jane Alexander) and the vital if cryptic guidance of Woodward's mystery source, Deep Throat (Hal Holbrook), Woodward and Bernstein "follow the money" all the way to the top of the Nixon administration. Despite Deep Throat's warnings that their lives are in danger, and the reluctance of older Post editors, Woodward and Bernstein are determined to get out the story of the crime and its presidential cover-up. Once Bradlee is convinced, the final teletype impassively taps out the historically explosive results. ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi

They just don't make movies like this anymore: realistic, un-hyped, detailed, and with strong, natural, visual geometry. The feel of the 1970s is palpable. Ignore the brain-dead reviewers who say it's slow; it's real. And the implications of this true story are frightening--and need to be relearned in our time.

I liked the overall story and it was interesting to learn more about Watergate. Only complaint was that for PG, it sure had a LOT of "F" Bombs. Luckily, they sure don't rate them like they use to.

This movie is an eye-opener about two men who were courageous enough to follow their hearts despite "bad people" trying to stop them. If these two reporters had not reported Watergate persistently, our country may have gone a different direction - perhaps to political disaster. It's inspiring to see this bravery which is, unfortunately, uncommon today. No special effects so it's a true grit movie! It also makes you realize how much work it was to be a reporter back then - today, anyone can be "media."

This is one of the few movies that still stands up. I always read the top 100 lists and I'm let down when I see the movie, but this one is didn't come close to letting me down. The movie will wrap you up so much you will forget until the end that this actually happened!!

I have mixed opinions about "All the President's Men." On one hand, it does a great job of capturing the realistic deadline pressures that journalists face on a day-to-day basis (full disclosure: my chosen profession is journalism), but it can be a little slow at times. In addition, even though the film ran over 2 hours, without giving away the ending, I thought it ended rather abruptly. Still, Hoffman and Redford play their roles well, and are very believable. It is still a good movie, and anyone who is interested in seeing an accurate portrayal of Watergate as well as the daily pressures of being a journalist should definitely watch it. However, the casual movie fan will probably enjoy "Scattered Glass" more.

Unless you remember Watergate and the Nixon era, you'll find this movie incredibly BORING.

Hoffman and Redford do this long, informative, and slow documentary-like movie a good bit of goodness. Their acting is quite good, and the source material is very interesting. But you can't rouse much action in the sleuth reporting of these two. So, this movie is slow. But if you want to know about the Watergate incident and how the trail of blame was followed all the way up to the president, you should watch this. It's enjoyable, but like I said, very slow. B

Redford and Hoffman definitely do give powerful performances, and the director of the post got an oscar for his performance. That being said, let's keep in mind that great performances do not always make great movies. Personal opinion: this movie is tedious and dull. The pace is slow and the movie is too long, yet it manages to hurry the ending. It is instructive, but not as action packed as it could have been. An ok film, watch it to understand watergate.

I love historic films, and this one did not disappoint. However, it was a little slow in the beginning, and it seems they ran out of film money, based on the abrupt ending. The movie presented a good account of the Watergate scandal. The movie did miss some good points, including how did one of the reporters (Redford) started his key relationship with “Deep Throat”.
