It's too bad this didn't get an audience because this would have made a great series of films based on the Easy Rawlins novels by Walter Mosley. But at least we'll always have this one. Throughout his career of great performances (Training Day, Glory, A Soldier's Story, He Got Game, etc.) this has always been my favorite Washington film. And Don Cheadle put his name on the map, and has probably never had as great a character to play with since. And if you like this, I would also check out "The Mighty Quinn," another great detective film that Washington stars in and doesn't get near enough attention.

Love the cast in this one. Denzel Washington is handsome, he moves well - and his character is smart and sexy, as always. Jennifer Beals is alluring - I love her as Bette in "The L Word" on HBO now. Maury Chaukin is a favorite too, from the Nero Wolfe mystery series with Timothy Hutton as his young sidekick. The movie itself, interesting enough. Good premise. Like the dress and the furnishings of the era, the music. Good show.

The cast was great, but the story line wasn't very engaging. Denzel's character and his buddy were the only ones you could really care much about, and most of the story was pretty boring.
