In kids movies, all seem to use the same cheesy good guy, bad guy, maiden in distress formula. This one was just fun, with no nemesis other than a grouchy dog who doesnt really get in the way. I was just very impressed by a film that strayed from the same boring formula. Highly recommended if you want just some family fun, even if you are a die hard action fan. I still enjoy my bacon with eggs, however!
Forget the sequel.

It is original, well-written, well-acted, with a beautiful score, and appropriate for families. That is why it gets 3 1/2 stars - I'd give it more if it weren't for the second movie. "Babe: Pig in the City" was NOT a kids movie. There are elements of imminent peril (not the mild stuff, we're talking multiple scenes that depict drowning) , violence, death, scantily-clad women (yes, those are string bikinis in that scene!), and other thematic elements and references that are just too mature for children. Most of the original characters are only in about the first 15 minutes, then it's just Babe & the boss's wife in this odd, haphazard, SLOW tale. Different director, change in the writing team = TOTALLY different movie. If I were rating just the second movie, it would only get a 1/2 star, because we love James Cromwell (shame he's only in MAYBE three scenes...) I would highly recommend renting/buying the first film ONLY. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
