In a futuristic, high-tech world run by huge corporations, Parker Barnes (Denzel Washington) is an L.A. policeman serving time for killing the psychotic who murdered his wife and child. Lindenmeyer (Stephen Spinella), a Dr. Frankenstein of the computer era, has created a monster, Sid 6.7 (Russell Crowe), a virtual reality entity which is programmed with the character traits of scores of mass murderers. Sid 6.7 has escaped the control of its creator and is now running amok. The privatized police force in charge of keeping the peace in the city is run by Elizabeth Deane (Louise Fletcher). Barnes has volunteered to test a new criminal tracking system based on a virtual reality device. His job is to find Sid 6.7, with the help of psychologist Madison Carter (Kelly Lynch). Barnes gets out of prison and reinstated to the police force to pursue his dangerous prey. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

This was an interesting concept for a movie. This part was made for Russell Crow. Well acted, nothing heavy, just an interesting and entertaining movie.

My husband and I both were wondering if either Russel Crowe or Densel Washinton read the script BEFORE doing the movie, they are usually SOOOO much better at picking stories. What happened?

I love Russel Crowe and Denzel - see every film they are in - and it is inconceivable to me how these two could be in such a STUPID movie. I'm sorry, but this film is simply stupid. I'm an educated woman and I just can't think of a more apt description. Don't waste your time. Seriously. It's so bad.

Denzel + Crowe = Blockbusting Hit, right? Sadly, not quite. It fails to hit that mark. Each, on their own, bring their characters to life in this futuristic Sci-Fi, not-quite-thriller, but, theirs are the only characters allowed to approach reality. It's almost as if the more real any supportive cast member's role might have been, the less real Denzel's and Crowe's roles might have appeared to be, or something along those lines. ComGen special effects appear to improve drammatically throughout the flick, as if the budget would only allow some, not all, of the scenes to reach virtual reality, so, they might as well leave the audience believing that it only gets better further in, which, alas, it does, but at the risk of losing the less-dedicated audiences at the beginning. All-in-all, not the best executed flick, but, it does tell an interesting story along the way, and it does set up a rather cunning and plausible ending.

Chucky! If you're a big Crow fan, you might like this movie, just to see him go over the top and down the other side. Poor Denzel Washington, I can't believe he actually read the script before agreeing to be in this turkey. Perhaps the recording medium has degraded over the last 11 years? Nah...
