Read More Usually I prefer to watch foreign movies in the original language with subtitles, but here is a movie where I think the dub is better. It suits the cartoon-like nature of the film. The dubbed voices are more appropriate. The Siamese twins, for example, sound more creepy and menacing. It also lets you pay more attention to the movie's stunning visuals. This is a dark fairy tale for adults. I don't think Jeunet and Caro have ever done better, but watch Delicatessen if you can. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

Read More If a picture is worth a thousand words, this movie is worth trillions. The special effects with the flea are incredible; the morphing sequences are seamless; and if mat paintings are utilized, they are unnoticeable. Every shot seems to be in focus from extreme close-up to infinity. When actors are shown in close-up, you can count their pores and count the grains of sand in the mortar of the brink wall in the background as well. The environments are extremely rich and textured.
The dubbing was less than desirable. While not necessary for the plot, heavy French accents were often utilized which required the use of both English dubbing and English subtitles.
I found the plot muddled, hard to follow and just plain weird. If only the quality visuals of this film could have been paired with a plot and script to match. Hopefully, someone will find that the visuals in the film are in sync with a Pink Floyd album. Im still giving this film three stars for its quality eye candy. Daniel Emilfork is terrifying. Judith Vittet is beautiful and amazingly talented! I would have loved to have seen her continue to act. I was really drawn in by the chemistry that Ron Perlman's character, One had with Judith's character, Miette. The instant kinmanship they share is a rarity anymore. The adoration she holds for him in the desire to have family is seen clearly in her eyes. His protective big brother instinct is sweet. Dominique Pinon was the perfect choice for the clones. His quirky sense of humor fit incredibly well. I prefer the French audio to the English dub but I'd watch it either way. This is a must see for any Ron Perlman fan! Read More for the life of me i can not understand how any one could see this movie and think it's terrible. then, the film is so far past the realm of a main stream flick that i suppose it's just going to miss certain people. i have watched this one so many times i don't even have to read the sub titles any more, and i love it. Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a wonderful director with a very rich style, not unlike Tim Burton. there are always some very nice themes running through his films, of which i have nejoyed all that i have ever seen. Read More Bizarre, odd, creepy, dull and uninteresting. Ron Perlman is not entertaining in this film (however from the same director or producers came Aliens Resurrection in which I liked his humor). Miette played by Judith Vittet is exceptional young actress. I recommend having the movie play in its native French with English subtitles because having them speak in English is just too bizarre. I turned the movie off 15 minutes into the film. I forced myself to watch it though because it has been lying in its envelope for a month now. The movie just drags .... skip it. JUST SKIP IT!
