A man has a near-death experience and awakens to find himself spiritually attached to another who went through a similar experience in this horror movie. The story is based on a Dean Koontz novel. Hatch Harrison, an antique dealer, finds himself in an extraordinary position following the car wreck in which he was broad-sided by a semi-truck. Although his wife and teenage daughter survive, Hatch was actually dead for two hours before innovative resuscitator Dr. Jonas Nybern was able to bring him back. Hatch tries to resume his normal life, but encounters difficulty when he begins having horrific hallucinations. It turns out that the "visions" are really the experiences of Vassago, a Satanist who ritually kills people. Somehow he and the killer are connected. Vassago, too can experience events in Hatch's life; he begins to threaten Hatch by telling him he will use his daughter for a virgin sacrifice. The two men must battle it out spiritually. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

This is a must see movie now!!!! You'll be on the edge of your seat, and you'll grab the remote to hit rewind if you miss one word! This could very well be what it could be like to go to Heaven / or Hell when you die., Great visualizations, acting, plot, mood & soundtrack.

If you read the book... you won't like the movie. Often said, never truer here. Dean Koonts wrote the book and then sold the rights to it for the movie. Once he saw what they were doing to his story, he pulled his name from the project. With good reason. He has since stated that he isn't big on turning his books into movies because of Hollywood fiasco's like this. He's right. This was a terrible adaptation and a plain bad movie to boot. Unfortunate, becuase the book is one of my favorite of his.

I just don't think Jeff Goldblum really does a good job in his roles, this one was no exception. Just something about him that causes his characters to be unbelievable. Story wasn't that great, if you have nothing better to do, then watch it.

The only thing more artistically tragic in this film than the writing is the acting. I generally like Goldblum's work, but his persona was a poor fit for this role. The changes in the story (diverging from the original material in Koontz's book) made the movie that much more unpleasant for me to watch. 80's special effects are more convincing than the "demon/angel" and "heaven/hell" CGI nonsense they have going on. The characters are unrelatable, and Hatch, particularly, has as much depth as a spilt carton of milk. The gratuitous use of the f-word seems forced and ineffective, seeming to be dropped in whenever the writers felt it necessary to remind the audience of the film's rating. Read the book and pray that someone has the guts and the talent to make a decent remake because it is a powerful story, the original, that is.

A classic paced thriller film, similiar to thriller films on Lifetime channel. The plot was semi-preditable due to the made-for-TV-family dynamics for this type of film. It presents a typical out of control teenage girl with a pair of loving parents. One of the parents believes something which no one believes until near the end when they are all struggling for their lives. Good Vs. Evil triumphs through this movie. Entertaining for the most part. Great acting.

This movie was going to be entitled "Dean Koontz's Hideaway," but for good reason, he had his name detached from it. The big difference is the age and troubles of daughter/step-daughter, which completely changes the feel of the story. As in most cases, the book > the movie.

I've never been a fan of Jeff Goldblum other than his character in Jurassic Park, but I have to say he really was wonderful in this serious and spooky movie. Both he and Christine Lahti were very authentic and believable in their roles and I found myself liking the characters which made me root for them even more. I love the frank acknowledgment of heaven and hell, and the entire movie was a real nail-biter. Watch this one; you won't regret it!
