This movie is one of my all time favorites. I've seen it about 15 times and enjoy it more every time. The acting is top notch and the plot is outstanding! It is definetly work watching. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Read MoreThis movie was really good and kept you intrigued all the time. It has almost a double plot and leaves you guessing thoughout about the innocence of a man although you end up not caring if he was innocent or not but come to the understanding that what the men in this prison suffer through is awful. This film also makes one think deeply about the politics involved in our criminal system and all its checks and balances. In the end, it is a feel good movie and I would watch it again. Morgan Freeman is wonderful as usual. If you get a chance, rent this, although it is not a film for small children (under 15) and ENJOY! Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

I watch this movie at least once a year. The stunts Andy pulls will keep you glued to the screen.

Though it never ever feels more than a months worth. My problem with the movie is that it tries too hard to tug at the heart strings, and while many moments of the movie are genuinely touching, a lot of it made me roll my eyes because it was almost laughably cheesy. The reason I say that it feels like a month in prison is Tim Robbins acting. He is so lifeless in his approach that even though he goes through a lot in that jail, none of it EVER shows. He was put in solitary confinement for 2 months and came back to lunch the next day as if it were his first. His role was never convincing and the overly long and predictable ending should have ended with an outline of a heart around Freeman and Robbins. Too much heart and not enough emotion in this one.
