Outrageously violent, time-twisting, and in love with language, Pulp Fiction was widely considered the most influential American movie of the 1990s. Director and co-screenwriter Quentin Tarantino synthesized such seemingly disparate traditions as the syncopated language of David Mamet; the serious violence of American gangster movies, crime movies, and films noirs mixed up with the wacky violence of cartoons, video games, and Japanese animation; and the fragmented story-telling structures of such experimental classics as Citizen Kane, Rashomon, and La jetée. The Oscar-winning script by Tarantino and Roger Avary intertwines three stories, featuring Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta, in the role that single-handedly reignited his career, as hit men who have philosophical interchanges on such topics as the French names for American fast food products; Bruce Willis as a boxer out of a 1940s B-movie; and such other stalwarts as Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, whose dance sequence with Travolta proved an instant classic. ~ Leo Charney, Rovi

"Pulp Fiction" pressed the <RESET> button on the way stories are told as movies, and the way "low budget" independent movies are regarded. True, "Pulp Fiction" is not for everyone. It never was. If you love this movie or hate it, there's nothing wrong with you. It was made specifically NOT to follow the "Hollywood formula," and as such it tends to be very polarizing. The "Formula" movies are _created_ with the specific purpose of appealing to the widest possible audience. So, if you hate (loathe, can't stand) "Pulp Fiction", you're not alone - and vice versa. Revel in the fact that at least it _exists_ and is successful. Without it (and other independent films), movies in general would be far, far more boring.

A twisted story line from a twisted mind. Kubrick would be proud. A 3D adaptation of pot boilers with all out delivery of sordidness, violence, and profanity. Not for all tastes. Brilliantly constructed and woven together dialog. No predicting the twists in this one. Not for the faint of heart or light of stomach but rewards careful viewing. After this the paperback will never be the same.

You either like this one or you couldn't stand it. It's absolutely crazy and reminds of crazy times past. QT has a great sense of humor and I laugh my --- off everytime I watch it. Maybe I have the same warped sense he has and that's why I get it...

If you are in to the "F" word used every third word, you'll love this one. We bailed out after 10 minutes. We don't know people who talk this trash talk and find it disgusting. People who watch and enjoy this movie must have very low I.Q.s. Pat C.

I guess you have to have a good stomach for this sort of thing. My kids and I were totally turned off by it. I fail to see any redeeming social value in this film.
