Its best if you know something about chess. The more you know about the game, the more entertianing the movie is. Personally, I love the movie. It has some humor, some sweet, and a splash of sad. This movie really got me excited about chess. In just the same way that after you watch a basketball movie, you absolutely HAVE to play basketball. If you like chess, then check out this movie. If you know nothing about chess, watch it with someone who does, and have them expalin. You'll be amazed either way.

The cinematography, score, acting, drama... it was all so well made. The plot advanced effortlessly without being forced. A great family movie.

What might have become a glitzy inspirational or morality tale typical of exaggerated Holywood values turned out to be remarkably free of maudlin sentimentality. It was actually a pleasure to watch--with a fine cast of appealing children, parents and mentors. As an added plus--you really don't need to have any specialized knowledge of chess to enjoy this one ! I should know--having never played the game. As another reviewer notes, however, several scenes are dimly lit--a pet peeve of mine and one which I always I always find frustrating.

Although this was a great movie, we found it was a little difficult to watch because of the dark photography. Great message and a good journey.
