It is so dull though the sets and costumes are pretty interesting. Jennifer Jason Leigh portraying a similar "Katherine Hepburn" character is so irritating and annoying in much of the movie. I don't recommend this unless you have no life. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The basic premise was pretty good, but after the first sequence it wasn't presented very well. Tim Robbins performs fairly well, but at times he is too good at playing the buffon that it is hard seeing him become a hero. Jennifer Jason Leigh was just horrible. Her accent and fluctuating attitudes were almost unbearable to watch. The rest of the actors gave good, solid performances. Finally, the fantasy in the film seems pasted into the story. Overall, it's an okay feel-good story, but it just wasn't great. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Not an engaging plot and none of the actors seem to take their characters seriously. This is supposed to be an homage to 30's screwball comedy, but misses by a mile as a movie unto itself. The style is cool though - the free falling scenes, the 30's style dialog and rapid fire delivery, the evil slave-driver corporation. But if you expect a movie to be more than just style - to have an interesting plot and characters that you'll care about, this isn't it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

We wanted to watch it twice to make sure we caught it all... Never heard of it until our son recommended it. We had to look up the lead actress because of her delivery of great lines. Just a fun movie ! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Wonderful film, but judging from the reviews here it is not everyone's cup of tea. This ranks just below Fargo, Miller's Crossing and O Brother; if you like the Coen's it's very much worth your time. It's funny. It's beautiful. It's original. It's almost a live action cartoon. The characters are written very broadly but not so broadly that you stop caring about them.
This is also one of the more kid-friendly films in the Coen's catalog. Yeah, it does feature an elaborately staged suicide, but it's only slightly more traumatic than Yosemite Sam blowing his own head off with a shotgun. My 12yo daughter got over it in about 45 seconds, and enjoyed the picture.
Anyway. If you like the Coens or Yosemite Sam or maybe Monty Python give it a try. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I have loved every other Cohen Brothers movie I've seen, but, man! What a waste of time this one was. Big stars, big budget, big directors, big waste of time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
