Classic Jim Carrey. Although Carrey has thankfully moved to more serious movies recently (for the most part), the first Ace Ventura was the perfect combination of silliness and a decent plotline. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |

Read MoreI don't know why I still have a holding for this movie. Back when I was a kid, and it had just came out, I watched it and fell in love with it. I bought the prehistoric VHS and watched it pretty much to death. Jim Carrey was as much as an idol that I had. And of course, when the second Ace Ventura came out, and then the priceless Dumb and Dumber, he attained a god-like position in my eyes. Watching it again, I see that his antics were very much exaggerated and over the top, but it still is a comedy classic for me. It's dated, true, but I still regard it as a breakout comedy. Jim Carrey has refined his act A LOT since this movie. His antics are too over the top here. There are enough silly and funny parts to keep you entertained even if you are squirming at how cheesey the gags are sometimes - so if you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. If you have - I'd give it a miss for a second time around... rent Dumb and Dumber again - that one stands the test of time very well :)
