Director Peter Jackson's second feature cheerfully trumps the gross-out quotient of his splatterfest debut, the appropriately named Bad Taste. The tone is cartoonishly comic, and the premise is simple: The village dweeb (Timothy Balme) is trying to maintain a budding romance with the sweet Paquita (Diana Penalver) while concealing the fact that his overbearing mum (Elizabeth Moody, in an amazing good-sport performance) is a flesh-eating zombie. (She owes her condition to a bite from a "Sumatran Rat Monkey" at the local zoo.) Complicating matters even further is Les, a greedy uncle (Ian Watkin), who suspects that his sister has died and is eager to occupy her elegantly furnished Victorian mansion. The climax is a housewarming party Les throws to celebrate his "inheritance;" what he really gets is his comeuppance, thanks to his sister and her similarly afflicted zombie pals, who burst out of their basement prison to turn the guests into appetizers. Our hero finally cuts a wide swath through the zombie party crashers with the help of a rotary blade lawn mower, leaving the house awash in blood and body parts in order to save his romance. ~ Tom Wiener, Rovi

This movie is now in my top 5 favorite horror movies. The scene when he takes the zombie baby to the park is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I also liked this because its style is similar to my favorite horror movie of all time, Evil Dead, but Dead Alive is about 5 times funnier and 10 times gorier at least, maybe 50 times. The effects are insane and awsome and at one point there is a zombie just made of guts that farts and uses its lungs as hands. Ya, AWSOME!! Also some silly but cool stop animation with playdo or w/e like in Evil Dead. So if you love gore, horror movies, comedies, or just have a TV and DVD player rent this now you wont regret it. Watch it when your having a bad day, it will help. -C.L.

I agree with the other freaks - definitely ONE OF THE BEST! Stands tall in the pantheon of zombie clas-sicks, with NotLD, ED, RofLD and Reanimator! Works both as an over-the-top satire and as a scary, funny movie - RENT IT IMMEDIATELY!

This movie is over the top and awesome! It's overly gorey to the point of being comical. It's nothing like Peter Jackson's other movies like Lord of the Rings. If you liked Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, this is right up your alley. I highly recommend this for people who like campy and over the top horror movies!

At one point near the climax a guy's disembodied innards take on a gooey, evil life of their own and help mindless zombies kill people. What more can I say...youshould be renting this already after the first sentence (if you haven't already seen and enjoyed it previously).

This movie tried to be scary and funny like evil dead. Few parts were really funny like the pus in the pudding. Other parts meant to be funny like the baby were annoying. Don't rent this thinking it will be scary or a great zombie movie. Tons of blood, guts, and gore. Sometimes I think the bad effects and acting were on purpose.
