Read More I was excited to see Branagh and Thompson in something that wasn't Shakespearian. I am always interested in their taste of scripts collectively and seperately. Branagh always challenges himself with something out of the ordinary. This was refreshing. It was also and unexpected delight to see Jacobi ( primarily a Shakesperian director) act on film. Read More Reading these reviews and the reviews of critics make me wonder if maybe I am nuts. One of the most irritating movies i have seen recently, i couldnt finish it. Branaugh should stay away from direction, hes flat out bad at it, the direction is clunky and light. Maybe the plot is faintly interesting, but who wants to work their way through the cringingly bad scenes to get there? And whats with Andy Garcias bangs, dont you just want to get some scissors and get those things out of his face? Just another facet of the wall to wall vapid waste that is this movie. Only Williams' performance was believable, and I LOVE Emma Thompson. Hollow dialogue, poor, sudden cuts (one by the car when she's almost abducted goes from medium shot to over Kenneth Branagh's shoulder perspective with no continuity). Really, much more like a made-for-TV movie, only a step up from an episode of the Charlie's Angels TV series. A third-rate Jagged Edge I hoped against hope would get better, but never did.
