A bunch of characters, lots of 70's Greatest Hits songs, with the haircuts and clothing to match. Matthew McConaghey, in my opinion, has the funniest "look" of all of the characters. Don't get me wrong, though - it's all in good fun. A fun way to spend two hours. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Matthew McCanoughey was surprisingly funny and on-target with his character. As far as a good laugh stoner flick,it's OK, but there are much better. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Anyway it isn't a bad movie. It is entertaining and does a decent job of portraying the 70's and for that aspect I like it. There really just doesn't seem to be any plot or any real point to this movie. Sure it has some humor and it will does kind of bring back memories of what it was like to be in high school but the characters just aren't believably written and it comes across as more of a characture or a farce. Good soundtrack. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The first half of the movie spends gracious hours of my life I'll never get back dramatizing high school hazing rituals. The bullies take them for granted; the victims accept them with death-sentence glee.
This whole movie is a 45+ something's wet dream of what it would have been like to be at the top of the Darwinian high school heap in the 1970's.
Only the nerds have any redeeming qualities. The red-haired girl thinks deep thoughts. The fast-talking Woody Allen/Richard Lewis kid gets out a few laughable lines.
Everyone else either participates in, hides from or glories from afar the demeaning, violent rage that is the older kids toward the younger.
A pathetic, unrealistic, sad -- deeply sad -- slide of someone's fantasy of what the 70's were like, but who had never actually been there. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
