Darkman (1990) Reviews

This has to be one of the goofiest, over-the-top, unintentionally funny movies I've ever seen. I watched this with a friend through On-Demand because we were bored and throughout the whole film we were gasping for air from laughing so hard, especially at Raimi's love-affair with the Montage sequence (Take the elephant!). I won't bother to give you much of a plot summary, it's just your basic good-guy scorned gets his revenge on the mobsters who try to kill him. Amazingly, the overall talent seems to be top-notch with the Coen brothers co-writing the script and Sam Raimi at the helm directing, how could you go wrong? Heck, Liam Neeson is the main character and yet all of it adds up to one giant mess of ridiculous plot, acting and special effects. Final Word: A cult-classic that just gets funnier with time, I'd especially recommend for a group of friends with nothing else to do on a Thursday night. 1 star for the actual film, 5 for the unintentionally hilarious results.

This must be the movie all serious actors dread being a part of. Up until now, Liam Neeson could do no wrong (in movies) in my eyes. I expected better from Frances McDormand also. Way over-acted! Weak plot.

Good mindless entertainment with a simple revenge plot. Very much like Sin City. The lead played by Liam Neeson is an anti-hero right out of the comic books. Overall a fun movie. If you are a serious, or chick-flick type person, best to skip this one.

This is a dark movie. I have seen this a long time ago, and it is still dark but fun. The Faces are a great part of the story. It was good enough to get two more movies. I am a fan of superheroes, and scary movies. This was a little of both in a great mix.

With the exception of a couple cheesy lines and some terrible acting, there are some really classic Sam Raimi scenes in this movie. This is an original, unique, story that comic/superhero fans should watch. More importantly, there's a Bruce Campbell appearance, and that's all that matters.
