Like many others, I grew up on this film in the 80's and my kids enjoyed it is just as much today as I did then. The special effects in Dark Crystal aren't nearly what we are used to in today's films but you quickly get past that. The puppetry is typical Jim Henson and easily as magical as the story line. Unlike some of Jim Henson's other works though this film is quite a bit darker. I would not recommend this film for small children who scare easily. There are some pretty intense scenes. It was too much for our two year old who left the room but our 10 year old was riveted. (And so was I.) I definitely consider this film one of my favorite classic fantasy films of all times.

This movie is on par with any "children 's movie " ever made . The plot line and unique stop action photography set it apart from the usual kiddie fare . If you are looking for a film that adults can actually really enjoy watching along with there kids ( I 'd reccommend ages 6 - 12 ) THIS IS IT !
