This is an excellent fantasy movie. You have to consider it is a movie made for children, so don't expect too much. However, it is a classic flourishing with Jim Henson's talent and imagination. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Jim Henson's "The Dark Crystal" is still the best mystical adventure ever. A truly wonderful story done in his signature muppet style. Beautiful set effects populated with sweetly unique characters, Fizzgig being the favorite of our family. An older family film but much better than many of the newer releases. Read MoreOur family is able to enjoy a lot of movies, even many that others don't find exciting or interesting, but this was a big disappointment. The story line and mode of presentation was corny and weird, and the moral of the story (if there was supposed to be one) was ridiculous. It seems to want to show that there can be no perfection in creatures unless they have both their peaceful components and their evil components.
I must say, however, that the set and costume designers did a terrific job. The landscape, and particularly the lifeforms on the planet are VERY imaginative, and interesting to see and consider. The main characters weren't bad, despite their very limited facial movements being somewhat distracting when they talked. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
