Willie Dynamite (1973) Reviews

Willie Dynamite (1973)
Member Rating:
Willie Dynamite (Roscoe Orman) is a Manhattan pimp whose life and career are documented in this blaxploitation flick. Willie makes it to the top of his precarious profession, only to hit rock bottom again in record time. In her last movie role, Diana Sands plays an ex-hooker who becomes a social worker. She tries to get Willie to clean up his act before it's too late. Willie Dynamite was produced by Richard Zanuck and David Brown, who shortly afterward collaborated on a more upbeat project, The Sting. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A well crafted tale of redemption. Willie Dynamite has been erroneously labled a blaxplotation film. I found Willie Dynamite to be a timeless and universal story of a lost man's journey back to the knowledge of self. More illustrating than documenting the pitfalls of street life when coupled with blind ambition. Willie Dynamite provides an uplifting message that was seldom seen in that particular era. Outstanding performances from an excellent cast make Willie Dynamite a must own title. I also strongly recommend "Nothing But a Man" also available on Blockbuster.com

I have to agree with the other comments. This movie is very likeable and even loveable. I stumbled upon this movie mistaking it for the bases of “Napoleon Dynamite” but I was happy to have made that mistake. This movie details a well dress pimp, and I emphasize well dressed, downfall from the ranks of the top pimp in Manhattan. However the movie does have a message and that would basically be that …..Pimping ain’t easy.
