A remake of Jacques Tourneur's noir classic Out of the Past (1947), in this version a labyrinthine web of corruption touches on the world of pro football. When an injury-riddled body causes pro football player Terry Brogan (Jeff Bridges) to be cut by his team, Jake Wise (James Woods), a shady gambler friend, hires him to locate his spoiled, erratic girlfriend Jessie (Rachel Ward). Terry's attempt to glean Jessie's whereabouts from the girl's coldly aristocratic mother (Jane Greer) leads to a lucrative counteroffer to keep Jessie away from Jake if he finds her. After refusing, Terry heads for scenic Cozumel, where he eventually runs down the stunning young woman. A mutual attraction quickly develops and the pair are less than eager to return to California. Painfully, Terry tells Jessie about his involvement in a betting scandal which has put him under Jake's control. Meanwhile Jake, who is angered by the delay, senses that something is going on, and sends Terry's conditioning coach, Sully (Alex Karras), to find the couple. When he finally locates them, sweatily making love in a Mayan temple, tragedy ensues, spinning the ill-fated Terry into a world of boundless deceit and corruption. ~ Michael Costello, Rovi

I loved this movie in the 80s and still love it 20+ years later. It has a great plot full of twists and turns and great characters you will love to hate. Jeff Bridges and James Woods deliver really good acting and some pretty clever lines even for today's standards. I wanted to see more love scenes though...Jeff Bridges is hot, damn it!

Thank you Blockbuster for having this movie available. I had only seen it once and it's never on TV. Can't find it in any video rental places. I really, really liked this movie.

This remake of the noir classic "Out of the Past" can't stand up to the original. Though not even half as old, it already feels dated and despite the location shooting you never lose the sense there's a camera crew standing next to the actors. I like Bridges and Woods, but the original is studio Hollywood at it's shimmering best - dark, mysterious and gritty, with Mitchum and Douglas in top form, plus the astonishing Jane Greer (also in this version). That said, this does have moments and the commentary is good!

This is Jeff Bridges's best acting, a terrific movie about love and success, great car race between the Porsche and the Ferrari!!

Fun to watch the older movies, even though this was also a remake. I would like to see the original for comparison. Good acting by all.

Thought this was going to be alot more romantic than it was action filled. Ok movie.

Tries to be a suspense movie but never quite makes it. Even the romantic angle of the movie comes up short. Though it is probably one of Jeff Daniel's best acting jobs, it is a vehicle with a flat tire.
