The special effects are dated, but engaging, and the pace holds your interest.

Seeing ... Read MoreThis movie came out in 1981, when I was 9 yrs old. At that time I had NEVER seen anything like it. I can't count the number of times I dragged my parents to the theater to see this little gem. Seeing it again on DVD was an incredible sense of nostalgia. It was almost like I was 9 yrs old again, and I'm in my early 30's. A few of the reviews say that the special effects don't hold up to todays standards. In 1981, that wasn't stop-motion-animation I was seeing on the screen, it was flying horses, and gorgons, and 3-headed dogs and mythical creatures beyond my wildest imagination. This movie is pure magic, and is sure to win the approval of the young and old alike, even if mythology isn't your thing, give this movie a shot. It will not disappoint you.

Regarding the rating, this movie was made in a time when there was no pg-13 rating, thus the 7 seconds of nudity and cartoonish violence. I don't personally think the nudity is that big of a deal as it wasn't sexual in nature. A mother breast-feeding and a woman stepping out of a bath are not any sort of pornography. This is one of my all time favorite classics.
