Joseph Cates (Who Killed Teddy Bear?) directed this insipid, widely reviled musical-comedy featuring heavyset comedian Jack E. Leonard in his leaden screen debut as twins Irving and Herman. The plot concerns some teenagers searching for treasure on a tropical island owned by a cosmetics tycoon (Brian Donlevy). His daughter (Jayne Mansfield, a year before her death) heaves her bosom a great deal and sings (badly). The best singing is done by lead teen Jordan Christopher, making his own screen debut with some promising numbers backed by the Wild Ones. There are a number of subplots involving spies, mermaids, and the legendary Fountain of Youth, as well as some amusing interplay between Leonard and Phyllis Diller to keep things interesting. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Bad Movie Heaven!! Jayne at the drunken end of her career/life; Fat Jack Leonard (hey...that's how he billed himself), washed-up borscht-belt comic thinking that this movie would put him back on top; Brian Donlevy, all drunken and drugged and seemingly oblivious to the fact that he was making a movie at all; rock acts of the era thrown in from left field...add to all that joy what has to be THE worst dialogue I've ever heard come flopping off the screen (and I am a maven from dreck), ostensibly something to do with finding a fountain of youth in Florida, but you'll do much better if you share the director's attitude that a story just confuses things anyway. Just sit back and enjoy the mayhem.

It's interesting to see such unlikely castmates as Phyllis Diller & Jayne Mansfield in the same movie & there are a couple of decent tunes mixed in with the crappy ones, but, mostly, this lives down to its reputation as one of the worst movies ever. I'd never heard of it 'til recently & was looking forward to it since some of my all-time favorites are widely panned, but, in this case, I have to agree with the majority (rare for me).
