Anyone looking to be inspired should see this move. Watching the struggles that the main characters endure and the final result is a clear view of our human condition. Remember that it was film in the 80's but that does not detract from the depth of the film.

This film is a little slow in getting started and for the action/adventure nut...you are likely going to be bored silly. However, the lives of these two great runners are superbly compared and contrasted in their search for meaning of purpose and life. Eric Liddell, who will ultimately become a Christian missionary to China, struggles with his priorities, while Harold Abrahams (A secular Jew) struggles for his life purpose. This film is wonderfully artistic and deserved the Academy Award for best film. However, don't think James Bond or the terminator will hop out at any moment. Two thumbs up, but just know what you are getting into.

Seems to move slowly, however, the values expressed are excellent. It is about priorities, integrity, hard work, diligence, and faith. The movie score is very moving.

Poorly done. I cannot believe that it won any awards. The original storyline was such a good one and the screenwriters had so much good material to work with. It's hard to believe that when the ball was dropped, nobody involved in the production of this movie seemed to notice. The heart or sentiment of the movie was completely killed by the ridiculousness of the out of place 80's music playing in the background. To feel the heart of a movie, there has to be synergy. The music cannot fight the setting. WHAT were they thinking? And the movie progressed so incredibly slowly that it was almost painful. In a word, disappointing.

I kept this movie for 'months' and attempted to watch it 3 times, each time falling asleep 1/3 the way in. I held onto it thinking that I'd give it another shot, but after 3 failed attempts (& several months where I didn't rent another movie to replace), I cut my losses & finally returned it. A costly mistake. No, I'm not an action movie nut -- just interested in an engaging story, which this is not.
