Casino Royale (1967) Reviews

Casino Royale (1967)
Member Rating:
Retired after years of international espionage, Agent 007 is lured back into action to battle the evil spy organization SMERSH in this notoriously incoherent parody of the James Bond films. David Niven portrays the aging Bond, who atypically rejects the advances of a variety of women, and agrees to battle SMERSH's hold on the lavish Casino Royale only after organization head M is murdered. Also mixed up in the affair are several other secret agents, all named James Bond, played by everyone from Peter Sellers and Woody Allen to a chimpanzee. Despite a star-studded cast, a large production budget, and a hit score by Burt Bacharach, the film was universally panned as a muddled, overlong failure, with the occasional amusing sequence lost in the unintelligible surroundings. The participation of several screenwriters and five different directors, including John Huston, only adds to the confusion. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

This movie is one of my favorites. I love 007 and this movie just makes me laugh. It shows just how crazy the humor was back in the 60's. I really wanted my son to see it and he really had a good laugh. Thanks for having it in stock. The BB store that we use didn't have it so you came through.

This is comedic view of James Bond. It is a pretty chessy, but it a good movie.

What a great spoof of the spy movies from the 60's. Funny and sexy (for the time). Had me laughing through the whole movie. Forget what the critics say, I thought it was nicely done and enjoyable. Worth a watch.

Kinda fun, a bit sexy and campy. Movie making, writing and acting have improved a lot over the years since.

We were looking forward to watching this movie, when we put it in our player, it wouldn't play, said this DVD cannot be played. Took it out and it had a deep crack almost all the way thru the disc. I have asked for help on this and have received no answer.

This movie seems to be the "original" for bizarre movies made in the latter half of the 1960s, such as "Head" (the Monkees) and "The Party" (Peter Sellers). This movie definitely has its moments - Woody Allen and Orson Welles were especially a surprize. Great cast here - all the 60s older adult hipsters are here. There is an interesting take on an "LSD-like" scene in this flick that actually has some pretty decent psychedelics ! The same two songs play thoughout the movie, which is a bit over-the-top - - but again, for the time period when this movie was made, it was pretty good.

Twice I requested Casino Royale (1967) and twice you sent me Casino Royale (2006). Can you fix this error?

James Bond is old and celibate. This satirical movie may have attempted to be entertaining, but only accomplished being long and incoherent.
