The choices were not what they really wanted. Taking place in the midst of WWII, during a time when it was dangerous for many people, because the Naxi's were everywhere. However, Casablanca, the city, at that time was a jumping off spot for people trying to escape to the United States, a hot bed of spies, and a nest of people willing to sell their souls for freedom. All this lends to the intrigue, romance, and decisions made by the two lovers,. Wonderful acting, superb photography, but unfortunately, with the disc we returned, bad sound. We could hardly hear what was being said, even though we had the sound up to its highest setting. Even with that, we would watch again and again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Bogart is spectacular. I fell in love with Ingrid Bergman after seeing her in this movie and I have since seen everything she has ever done. Although this is not her best acting role, she is far and away the best actress in movie history as far as I'm concerned. Check her out in GASLIGHT or ANASTASIA. This is a 5 star movie and very rarely give anything 5 stars. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More "Casablanca" is just a melodramatic love story and a bit of wartime propaganda, but it's also one of the great films. Bogart's toughness and vulnerability, Bergman's love for one man yet faithfulness to another, stereotypical Nazis, wonderfully assorted characters, and great writing make "Rick's" a great place to spend some time. They don't make 'em like this one anymore. Bogart is the no-nonsense tavern owner with a heart of gold - Bergman is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in this movie. And the cliches are all there: "Here's looking at you, kid"...."the three of us in this crazy world"...."I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Bogart is incredible ! Great movie about the Nazi's and their grip on the rest of Europe during WW II. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The plot is reasonably good and Ingrid Bergman is not bad, but that's about it for me. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I came to the movie with an open mind, maybe expecting a lot, given this movie's reputation. It was also my first Bogart movie and he was prbably the biggest disappointment for me - this is called acting? I just read a review where another actor was described as having the acting capability of a 2x4 and that about sums up my opinion of Bogarts acting! I'm sorry but that's honestly how I feel, and I love old movies. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
